Getting a New Phone? How to Move Everything Without Losing a Thing
A new phone should feel exciting, not scary. The worry is always the same: "What if I lose my photos of the grandkids?" Take a breath — with a little care, everything comes over. Here's how it works, in plain English.
The secret: before you do anything else, back up your old phone. Once your photos and contacts are saved to the cloud (iCloud or Google), switching phones is just signing back in — everything flows to the new one.
Step 1 — Back up the OLD phone first
- iPhone: Settings → tap your name → iCloud → turn on iCloud Photos and iCloud Backup, then "Back Up Now" (stay on Wi-Fi).
- Android / Samsung: open the Google Photos app → turn on Backup. For contacts, make sure they're saved to your Google account.

Step 2 — Move everything to the NEW phone
